Biodiversity

As part of our environmental commitment, Kao Chemicals Europe works to protect and promote the planet's biodiversity. We strongly believe in the value of preserving this asset for the environmental wealth and heritage of future generations.

For this reason, in contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we emphasize activity aimed at protecting ecosystems and terrestrial biodiversity.

Initiatives for the preservation of biodiversity

In 2023, the following actions were carried out:

  • At KCSA, a campaign started in 2022 regarding invasive species and, in particular, Cortaderia de la Pampa, continued. To close the cycle, this species has been eradicated at the Barberà facility, where there was an infestation. The nest boxes and insect hotels installed in 2020 and 2021 were also monitored, and the exclusive use of organic fertilisers was certified. Moreover, KCSA helped reforest the green area surrounding the town of Mollet del Valles, participating in the traditional "Festa de l’arbre".

  • At KCHI, roads and forest areas around the company have been conditioned and cleaned, training actions have been carried out with the workers to publicize the bird species that live in the environment, an action that has served to complete the catalogue of biodiversity. In addition, maintenance of green areas and conditioning of nest boxes has continued.

  • KCG carried out the usual task of cleaning the banks of the Rhine River in 2023, and, once again, different vegetation was planted at KCE centres.
